A Rate Discount is a NightsBridge feature that allows you to set up and offer a range of different discount types.
The types of discounts available include:
- Basic discount
- Long Stay discount
- Early Bird discount
- Last Minute discount
- Rate Grid discount
- Promo code discount
- Rate discounts are applied to any of your rate sheets, for a specific period of time, using a percentage (%).
- Rate discounts are only for online bookings. They do not apply to bookings that you manually add to your calendar.
What is it used for?
This feature allows you to discount your rates by a percentage, for any period of time or season. The discount can be applied to a specific rate sheet. This lets you provide the discount on all channels linked to that rate sheet, whether one or more - as long as the channel supports the discount information sent to them from NightsBridge.
Remember you rate parity
Since some channels require you to ensure rate parity across all channels, be careful not to offer different rates to competing channels.
When to use Rate Discounts
- To offer a temporary discount on your rates without changing the rates that you have on your rate sheet.
- To offer your guests a discount for booking far in advance - so you fill up your beds in advance.
- To offer your guests a discount for booking at last minute - helping you fill up beds that would have gone empty.
The types of Rate Discounts
1. Basic Discount
The Basic Discount allows you to create and offer a generic discount for any occasion.
2. Long Stay Discount
A Long Stay discount encourages guests to book for an extended period - often 3+ nights, a week, or even longer. By offering a reduced nightly rate, you benefit from fewer check-ins/outs, steadier occupancy, and increased operational efficiency.
3. Early Bird Discount
An Early Bird discount encourages travellers to book well ahead of their stay. By rewarding guests who commit early, your can secure future occupancy and predict revenue with far more accuracy.
4. Last Minute Discount
A Last Minute discount is designed to help you sell the remaining rooms close to the arrival date that would otherwise go unbooked. As the check-in date approaches, the chances of selling those rooms at the standard rate drop sharply.
Offering a last minute discount encourages spontaneous travellers, same-day bookers, or guests with flexible plans to commit immediately.
5. Rate Grid Discount
A Rate Grid discount lets you discount your rates with the added ability to apply a specif discount percentage for each date within the specified date range.
So even if you're applying a discount for an extended period of time, you're also able to adjust the percentage discount for each day individually.
6. Promo Code Discount
A Promo Code discount allows you to provide bookers with promo code link.
Once set up, the promo code discount link can be sent to guests and bookers. It will provide them with access to your booking form where the specific promotion has been applied.
Channel Restrictions
Early Bird or Last minute discounts are not available on all channels.
Booking.com
Booking.com restricts promotions to a maximum of 7 nights. Any Rate Discount that you set up with a higher minimum night stay (8 or more) will automatically be adjusted to 7 nights on Booking.com.
How are Rate Discounts displayed on the NightsBridge booking form?
Displayed on your Specials Brochure
All your active Rate Discounts are displayed on the Specials Brochure of your Booking Engine.
What is displayed
Active Rate Discounts will always display within the 'Available Rates' section and provide the following:
- the applied discounts name
- the % saved for that day
- the original price with a strike-through
- the new discounted rate
The largest Rate discount available for the booking is always displayed.
This means that if you have two discounts that could apply to a potential booking, your Booking Engine will always display the Rate Discount with the highest value, ensuring your guests always get presents with your best available discount.
