How to add a breakage deposit on NightsBridge

A breakage deposit can be setup on NightsBridge. This will inform the booker that a breakage/damage/security deposit is required.

While a breakage deposit does provide a certain level of security when it comes to potential loss, it is important to keep in mind that requesting a damage deposit is unattractive to most bookers and guests. In most cases, its seems as unwanted additional transactions.

Please note these considerations:

  • We do not recommend enforcing a breakage deposit for corporate booking channels like TravelIT.

  • NightsBridge does not send breakage or security deposit information to Airbnb.

Adding the breakage deposit

Scroll down to 'Policies & Restrictions'.  

  • Click on the 'Policies' button.

The Policies page will open on the General Policies tab.

  • Select the 'Additional Fees' tab.

The Breakage Deposit settings are set just below the Cleaning Fee settings.

Set the breakage deposit for each room type:

  1. add the amount of the breakage deposit for each specific room type.
    • If the amount is the same use the 'Apply fee to all rooms' button to apply the same amount to all room types
    • If different amounts are required, add these individually
  2. Click 'Save'

Applying the same fee to all room types.

Decimal points will automatically be added. If the amount is larger than 1000, a thousands separator or grouping comma will display.

You do not need to add these.

via Rates & Rules (Setup)
  • Go to Rates & Rules (Setup).
  • Select 'Deposit & Booking Policy'.

  • Scroll down to 'Cleaning/Breakage Deposits'
  • Click the '+' (addition) button
    This will display the cleaning fee and breakage deposits section

Set the breakage deposit for each room type:

  1. add the amount of the breakage deposit for each specific room type.
    • If the amount is the same use the 'Apply fee to all rooms' button to apply the same amount to all room types
    • If different amounts are required, add these individually
  2. Click 'Save'
    You will be returned to the Rates & Rules (Setup) page.

Note that the 'Apply to all' feature will update both the cleaning fee and breakage deposit amounts. If you want to set individual amounts, do not use this feature.

  • Click 'Publish' to update your saved changes.

How to inform guests of the breakage deposit

Since this information is best provided prior to booking, if you decide to request a breakage deposit, the details should be added to the 'Terms & conditions that apply to the booking'. This can be found in the General Policies on Home.

Please note:

  • Breakage deposits are only available to local channels and integrations should they require it.
  • Booking.com - A breakage deposit is only added to Booking.com by NightsBridge, if NightsBridge created the listing on your behalf.
  • Airbnb - Airbnb offers an alternative solution to the classic breakage deposit. More details are available in our article, 'How to add a breakage deposit for Airbnb'

While NightsBridge will always make this information (policies, descriptions and photos) available to your connected channels, we cannot enforce that these are applied to your listing(s) with the specific booking channel.

It is always recommended to check your property and policy information directly with the connected booking channels.
